The leading cause of death for healthy dogs and cats in the United States is Shelter Killing. Some five million are killed in nation’s shelters every year. For far too long, we have been led to believe there is no other way. More than that, we have been told that this killing is the right thing to do.”   Nathan Winograd

An average of 700 animals are killed every month at Roicy Duhon Animal Control, Lafayette, Louisiana.

There is a solution - it's called the no kill equation... it saves lives AND your tax dollars!

The animals in our communities deserve humane treatment and animal lovers should demand change from our community leaders. Even if you don't like animals, then please consider what is happening to your tax dollar as it, decade after decade, continues to be wasted in this never ending circle of killing rather than prevention, of killing over adoption, of killing over spaying/neutering.

Roicy Duhon Animal Control does not perform humane euthanasia via the more cost effective, quick and painless method of injection. So when Fifi, Fido and Fluffy are no longer wanted or have yet another litter, they and their babies are frequently taken to animal control where they will die by the inhumane and grossly out-of-date method of "gassing" (where they die slowly, gasping for air and clawing to get out of the chamber) days and sometimes even hours after arriving.

Until our local animal control can be convinced there is a better way, Wild Cat Foundation is taking the lead by forming a coalition with Lafayette Animal Aid to address the population issue of feral cats in our community with a special TNR program (click here for more information on this program). By bringing Lafayette Parish into the 21st century by humanely implementing pet population control we can effectively reduce the numbers of animals arriving at the doors of our Parish's animal control facility.

Our long term goal is to help the community with a low cost or 'voucher' program to assist with spay/neuter of pet cats and dogs. This is the ONLY way to prevent unwanted litters.

The number one reason cited for pet owners not altering their pets is the COST. And that's where we all can help. With your generous donation, we can prevent litters and the constant flow of unwanted animals entering into Animal Control and local rescue shelters, allowing animals already in the system to find loving, forever homes.
Do you want to provide a spay or neuter for a feral? Or perhaps contribute to the voucher program to help owners alter their pets?
In the "Purpose" box. Please indicate whether your donation is for "Ferals" or "Voucher".
